Ask anyone who their favorite sports team is, and you will get an answer backed by stats that go back thirty years. This is especially true for any Cowboys fans. (lol) All jokes aside, stats are what tell us whether a team or individual is improving or losing. The same goes with shooting.
When you go to the shooting range, how can you track your stats to brag about to your buddies? The only tool to use is the Mantis X10 Elite!
The Mantis X10 Elite is the most recent culmination in a line of products aimed at revolutionizing your ability to train with firearms. You can attach it to pistols, rifles, shotguns, and even compound bows.
The device is a sensor that tracks your gun’s movements and grades you on your performance. The analysis breaks down everything from pre-shot movement to how you manage the recoil. It takes all of the information and compiles a score from 0-100. It looks somewhat like this:
At the end of last year, I decided I wanted to change up my shooting game. I wanted to train more realistically. The overall goal was to eventually get into competition shooting. The problem was that I did not want to throw every last dime into ammunition. So, to find a solution to this, I do what anyone does these days and turn to the internet for advice.
Continual searching and reading of blog posts only left me with more confusion and mixed emotions about products and training methodologies. Finally fed up with searching, I turned to a friend of mine who is an avid shooter to get his thoughts and he presented me with a Mantis X10.
From the moment I first saw how it worked, I was hooked. The device easily connects via Bluetooth to your phone through the Mantis X app. (This app can be found on both the Apple and Google Play store.) Once connected to your phone, you get a multitude of options for training, each with their own particular flare.
Choices include:
Out of all of these options, the ones I typically use the most are Open Training, Primary Hand Only, and Support Hand Only. All three of these drills can be done with dry fire, live fire, and CO2. The reason I stick with these drills is that they are the building block to strong, foundational shooting.
During a typical session, I will dry fire roughly 50 times before I shoot on a gun range. While nothing can truly mimic the recoil pattern of a live round, trigger manipulation will be the exact same, regardless if a round is chambered or not.
If you have never done a trigger press analysis, you may be amazed at how much movement happens in such a short amount of time. While it may not look like much, even the slightest movement can throw the shot, depending on the distance.
The reason I praise this product is three part: proficiency, efficiency, and cost savings. Let me explain:
Outside of personal training from qualified instructors, there is no other system I am aware of to increase your ability as completely as the MantisX system. I have a complete history of every shot I have taken since first attaching the device to my gun.
I am not talking an overview either. I mean an in-depth analysis of each shot and possible causes for mistakes. From January 2020 to June 2020, I have increased my pistol shooting proficiency by over 40 percent! Please tell me another way I can sit at home and watch “The Office” while I do my dry fire practice, and then go to the range and compare my dry fire times against my live fire sessions. I personally know of zero other devices to do this as well as the Mantis X10 Elite.
In terms of efficiency, it is truly hard to beat the X10. The device requires no extra tools to install for most firearms. For those firearms with no rail systems, Mantis X has come up with add on products to attach the device to your particular firearm. The sensor takes up very little space so you can take it anywhere you go. There is no need for special ammunition or lasers (though Pink Rhino makes a great training round with a laser inside it).
Lastly, cost savings. Typical prices for ammunition can fluctuate, especially during COVID-19. Currently, a 50-round box of 9mm TMJ ammunition goes for $18.95. That breaks down to 0.38 cents per round. With the cost of the device at $249.95, it takes 658 “rounds” to make up the cost of the device. For any serious shooting days, that can be done within a few of hours easily. Add on the fact that this product can be used at home for dry fire and on the range for live fire, the device can pay for itself within a few sessions. Personally, I paid mine off with dry fire practice within a couple of weeks.
